Depart ments must be capable of responding not only to the changing needs of the profession but also to the developments in computer technology. This paper outlines the results of a survey designed to elicit information about current IT provi sion and teaching in UK ILS departments. In particular, it is concerned with the type of degree courses offered by ILS departments, student numbers, the type and relative impor tance of IT topics taught and the computer hardware and software used for IT teaching. Attitudes about IT teaching are also described.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/016555159301900305","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,3,17]],"date-time":"2007-03-17T23:37:35Z","timestamp":1174174655000},"page":"211-223","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["The teaching of IT in departments of information and library studies in the UK"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"19","author":[{"given":"Anne","family":"Morris","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Information and Libray Studies, Loughborough University, Loughborough, UK"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1993,6,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","volume-title":"Professional education and training for library and information work (review by the Library and Information Services Council","author":"Library and Information Services Council","year":"1986"},{"key":"atypb2","volume-title":"Report of the Transbinary Group on Librarian and Information Studies","author":"Transbinary Group.","year":"1986"},{"key":"atypb3","volume-title":"Information technology content of initial professional education and training for librarianship in the European Community","author":"J H E van der Starre","year":"1992"},{"key":"atypb4","volume-title":"Paper prepared for a meeting of the BAILER IT specialist interest group in London on 14 December","author":"A.J.
