The purpose of this study was to investigate essential elements of community engagement in public libraries. Three research methods \u2013 semi-structured interviews, direct observation and document analysis \u2013 were used to gather data. Analysis of the data suggested a model of seven essential elements of community engagement: \u2018belonging\u2019, \u2018commitment\u2019, \u2018communication\u2019, \u2018a flexible approach\u2019, \u2018genuineness\u2019, \u2018relevance\u2019 and \u2018sustainability\u2019.
