For this purpose, a survey was conducted by using a questionnaire with a dichotomous scale (Yes\/No), involving Library and Information Science departments in Iran. The results revealed that, overall, the Associate curriculum is helping students to acquire 18 (32.72%) of the 55 required competencies, the Bachelors curriculum is helping them to obtain 77 (63.11%) of the 122 necessary competencies, and the Masters curriculum is helping students gain 83 (68.03%) of the 122 required competencies. The results also demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of the current Library and Information Science curricula in terms of providing graduates with the necessary competencies to work in special libraries.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0961000614551449","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2014,10,10]],"date-time":"2014-10-10T22:50:52Z","timestamp":1412981452000},"page":"123-136","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Coverage of the competencies required by special librarians at three different levels of Library and Information Science curricula"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"48","author":[{"given":"Alireza","family":"Peyvand Robati","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Knowledge and Information Science, Kerman Branch, Islamic Azad University, Kerman, Iran"}]},{"given":"Byabazaire","family":"Yusuf","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Education and Modern Languages (SEML), College of Arts and Social Sciences (CAS), Universiti Utara Malaysia, Malaysia"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2014,10,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr1-0961000614551449","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1108\/01435121111112880"},{"key":"bibr2-0961000614551449","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1108\/03074800410551020"},{"key":"bibr3-0961000614551449","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/07317130802678878"},{"key":"bibr4-0961000614551449","first-page":"328","volume-title":"Proceedings of the Asia-Pacific conference on library & information education & practice 2006 (A-LIEP 2006)","author":"Chu H","year":"2006"},{"key":"bibr5-0961000614551449","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"DeArmond AR, Oster AD, Overhauser EA, (2009) Preparing science librarians for success: An evaluation of position advertisements and recommendations for library science curricula.
