I suggest, however, that if we apply this definition of life to a consideration of living beings as dissipative systems, we find opportunities for further refinement. I propose that living bodies are autopoietic bodies that maintain themselves by using their boundaries to control their constituent processes of dissipative adaptation.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1059712319841306","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,4,10]],"date-time":"2019-04-10T03:14:56Z","timestamp":1554866096000},"page":"47-48","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Dissipative systems and living bodies"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"28","author":[{"given":"Nathaniel F","family":"Barrett","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Culture and Society, University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,4,10]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr1-1059712319841306","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Attard P.
