High-tech industries such as information technology, semiconductors, optoelectronics, and aerospace industries are sensitive to PLM, especially in stage transition and timing control. PLM will directly affect the corporate performance, profit acquisition, and the achievement of business goals and ultimately affect the survival and development. In this study, we look at when to launch a new product to replace the old one, at the optimal time to maximize the overall profit, and the development of several quantitative models to provide the product life cycle sensitive industries. Based on the proposed models, two illustrative examples together with six tables of outcome under all possible parameters are applied to verify the feasibility of this study of practical applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1063293x10389798","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,8,25]],"date-time":"2011-08-25T20:56:03Z","timestamp":1314305763000},"page":"201-212","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Timing for Launching a New Product to Maximize Overall Profit"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"19","author":[{"given":"Chen-Lung","family":"Yang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate Institute of Technology Management, Chung-Hua University, 707, Sec. 2, Wufu Road, HsinChu 300, Taiwan, ROC"}]},{"given":"Ming-Hai","family":"Ni","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate Institute of Technology Management, Chung-Hua University, 707, Sec. 2, Wufu Road, HsinChu 300, Taiwan, ROC, Department of Electronics Engineering, Ta Hwa Institute of Technology, No. 1, Dahua Rd, Qionglin Shiang, Hsinchu County 307, Taiwan, ROC"}]},{"given":"Chiu-Chi","family":"Wei","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Graduate Institute of Technology Management, Chung-Hua University, 707, Sec. 2, Wufu Road, HsinChu 300, Taiwan, ROC,"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,8,25]]},"reference":[{"issue":"6","key":"atypb1","first-page":"45","volume":"28","author":"Dean, J.","year":"1950","journal-title":"Harvard Business Review"},{"key":"atypb2","volume-title":"Diffusion of Innovations","author":"Rogers, E.M.","year":"1962"},{"key":"atypb3","first-page":"81","volume":"43","author":"Levitt, T.","year":"1965","journal-title":"Harvard Business Review"},{"key":"atypb4","volume-title":"A Test of the Classical Product Life Cycle by Means of Actual Sales Histories, PhD Dissertation","author":"Polli, R.","year":"1968"},{"key":"atypb5","volume-title":"Marketing Management: Analysis, Planning, Implementation and Control","author":"Kotler, P.","year":"1991","edition":"7"},{"key":"atypb6","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/0148-2963(79)90030-4"},{"key":"atypb7","volume-title":"Product Life Cycles and Product Management","author":"Onkvisit, S.","year":"1989"},{"key":"atypb8","first-page":"472","volume":"35","author":"Brockhoff, K.","year":"1967","journal-title":"Economica"},{"key":"atypb9","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/1251472"},{"key":"atypb10","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/1251473"},{"key":"atypb11","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2307\/1251478"},{"key":"atypb12","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.1467-9310.1988.tb00560.x"},{"key":"atypb13","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1287\/mksc.14.3.G6"},{"key":"atypb14","volume-title":"Concurrent Engineering Fundamentals: Volume 1-Integrated Product and Process Organization","author":"Prasad, B.","year":"1996"},{"key":"atypb15","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1108\/09684909710184626"},{"key":"atypb16","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1108\/03090569410055256"},{"key":"atypb17","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/0737-6782(94)90031-0"}],"container-title":["Concurrent Engineering"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/1063293X10389798","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/1063293X10389798","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,28]],"date-time":"2026-04-28T14:48:27Z","timestamp":1777387707000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/1063293X10389798"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2011,8,25]]},"references-count":17,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2011,9]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1177\/1063293X10389798"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/1063293x10389798","relation":{},"ISSN":["1063-293X","1531-2003"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1063-293X","type":"print"},{"value":"1531-2003","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2011,8,25]]}}}
