Two commercial codes (Ansys Fluent and Simcenter STAR-CCM) and two open-source implementations were compared using a generic test case from the open literature utilizing the same mesh, the same hardware, and as much as possible, the same settings. The first open-source implementation was taken from a previous work of the first author, and the second implementation is presented in this work. The scalability and efficiency for the four codes were evaluated up to 2,048 processor cores. The results show that, the open-source implementations performance is satisfactory and even outperform the commercial codes (specially the second implementation) for the tested case.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/10943420251378972","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,12]],"date-time":"2025-11-12T15:46:23Z","timestamp":1762962383000},"page":"158-173","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Parallel performance comparison of different CFD solvers and overset libraries for store separation analyses"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"40","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3620-8546","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Saleh","family":"Abuhanieh","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Turkish Aerospace"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1248-9061","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Bugra","family":"Batan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Turkish Aerospace"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0002-6084-9607","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Onur Mert","family":"Aksoy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Turkish Aerospace"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0009-3994-1434","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Irem","family":"Karaarslan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Turkish Aerospace"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0004-1791-6223","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Sahin","family":"Yigit","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Turkish Aerospace"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,12]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_3_5_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/09544100231203404"},{"key":"e_1_3_5_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/09544100221080771"},{"key":"e_1_3_5_4_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.jcp.2016.06.031"},{"key":"e_1_3_5_5_1","volume-title":"CFD Analysis of Missile Shroud Separation","author":"Celiker HE","year":"2015","unstructured":"Celiker HE (2015) CFD Analysis of Missile Shroud Separation.
