We investigate the performance of a finite-difference computational fluid dynamics algorithm on a massively parallel computer, the Connection Machine. Of special interest is an implicit time-stepping algorithm; to obtain maximum perfor mance from the Connection Machine, it is necessary to use a nonstandard algorithm to solve the linear systems that arise in the implicit algorithm. We find that the Connection Machine can achieve very high computation rates on both explicit and implicit algorithms. The per formance of the Connection Machine puts it in the same class as today's most powerful conventional supercomputers. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/109434208900300403","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,3,18]],"date-time":"2007-03-18T05:39:00Z","timestamp":1174196340000},"page":"9-27","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["A Computational Fluid Dynamics Algorithm On a Massively Parallel Computer"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"3","author":[{"given":"Dennis C.","family":"Jespersen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER MOFFETT FIELD, CALIFORNIA\r94035"}]},{"given":"Creon","family":"Levit","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NASA AMES RESEARCH CENTER MOFFETT FIELD, CALIFORNIA\r94035"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1989,12,1]]},"reference":[{"volume-title":"AIAA Ninth Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference","author":"Agarwal, R.","key":"atypb1"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/0021-9991(76)90110-8"},{"key":"atypb3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/BF01061485"},{"volume-title":"Proceedings of the 1988 international conference on parallel processing","author":"Fatoohi, R.A.","key":"atypb4"},{"key":"atypb5","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1137\/1020096"},{"volume-title":"Direct and iterative methods for block tridiagonal linear systems.
