Effective public health is information intensive and the impact of emerging knowledge management and ICT solutions will be significant. To capture some of the current thinking on how knowledge management and ICT will benefit public health, a panel of Canadian public health professionals was convened to discuss opportunities for progress by 2010. Three broad areas were addressed: (1) information and knowledge management; (2) information technology; and (3) working together to improve public health with knowledge management and ICT opportunities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1460458204042233","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,9,13]],"date-time":"2004-09-13T20:18:01Z","timestamp":1095106681000},"page":"111-120","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":5,"title":["The Impacts of Knowledge Management and Information Technology Advances on                 Public Health Decision-Making in 2010"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Michael","family":"Goddard","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Research and Technology Division, Centre for Surveillance Coordination,\r                        Population and Public Health Branch, Health Canada, 130 Colonnade Road, 3rd\r                        Floor, West Wing, AlL 6503C Ottawa, Ontario, Canada KMA 0K9, Tel: 1 (613)\r                        954 0169, Fax: 1 (613) 957 6218"}]},{"given":"David","family":"Mowat","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Centre for Surveillance Coordination, Population and Public Health\r                        Branch, Health Canada"}]},{"given":"Christopher","family":"Corbett","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"CSCW Systems Corporation, Victoria, BC, Canada"}]},{"given":"Cordell","family":"Neudorf","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Saskatoon Health Region, Saskatchewan, Canada"}]},{"given":"Parminder","family":"Raina","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"McMaster University, Evidence Based Practice Centre, Hamilton, Ontario,\r                        Canada"}]},{"given":"Vic","family":"Sahai","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Northern Health Information Partnership, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,6,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","volume-title":"Health Canada Decision-Making Framework for Identifying, Assessing, and Managing Health Risks","author":"Health Canada","year":"2000"},{"key":"atypb2","volume-title":"Centre for Evidence Based Medicine"},{"key":"atypb3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","DOI":"10.1093\/oso\/9780195092691.001.0001","volume-title":"The Knowledge-Creating Company","author":"Nonaka I","year":"1995"},{"key":"atypb4","volume-title":"42nd Annual Conference of the Operational Research Society","author":"Lind M","year":"2000"},{"key":"atypb5","volume-title":"The Effectiveness of Different Mechanisms for Spreading Best Practice","author":"Office of Public Management","year":"2000"},{"key":"atypb6","volume-title":"The CHAOS Report","author":"The Standish Group","year":"1994"},{"key":"atypb7","volume-title":"Unfinished Voyages: A Follow-Up to the CHAOS Report","author":"The Standish Group","year":"1999"},{"key":"atypb8","volume-title":"Statistics of IT Failure Rate","author":"The IT Cortex Corporation","year":"2001"},{"issue":"2","key":"atypb9","first-page":"250","volume":"41","author":"Ding Y","year":"2002","journal-title":"Data and Knowledge Engineering"},{"key":"atypb10","volume-title":"The Network for Health Surveillance in Canada","author":"Health Canada, Centre for Surveillance Coordination","year":"1999"},{"key":"atypb11","volume-title":"The Evolution of Cooperation","author":"Axelrod R.","year":"1984"},{"key":"atypb12","volume-title":"Measuring and Managing Performance in Organizations","author":"Austin R D.","year":"1996"}],"container-title":["Health Informatics Journal"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/1460458204042233","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/1460458204042233","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,29]],"date-time":"2026-04-29T22:28:37Z","timestamp":1777501717000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/1460458204042233"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2004,6]]},"references-count":12,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2004,6]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1177\/1460458204042233"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/1460458204042233","relation":{},"ISSN":["1460-4582","1741-2811"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1460-4582","type":"print"},{"value":"1741-2811","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2004,6]]}}}
