Legacy healthcare information systems are ill equipped to meet new requirements arising from this change. Many projects have been undertaken to address various aspects of the challenge of supporting patient-centric work. In the UK, development and adoption of a unified electronic patient record (EPR) that serves practitioners across the country is a high priority. This article considers what additional support healthcare teams will require beyond the cross-discipline unified EPR. A system that considers practitioners as part of a patient\u2019s care team and which tracks teams and professional roles is proposed and evaluated as a means to provide each practitioner with a view of the EPR appropriate to his\/her professional role and to provide improved support for collaboration among team members.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1460458210377138","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2010,10,1]],"date-time":"2010-10-01T12:59:24Z","timestamp":1285937964000},"page":"225-232","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Role-based access in a unified electronic patient record"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"16","author":[{"given":"Alysia","family":"Skilton","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Cardiff University, UK,"}]},{"given":"W.","family":"Alex Gray","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Cardiff University, UK"}]},{"given":"Omnia","family":"Allam","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Cardiff University, UK"}]},{"given":"Dave","family":"Morrey","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Velindre NHS Trust, Cardiff, UK"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,10,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","volume-title":"The new NHS: modern, dependable","author":"Department of Health.","year":"1997"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1197\/jamia.M1992"},{"key":"atypb3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.3109\/13561829609034099"},{"key":"atypb4","unstructured":"Pappa D., Stergioulas LK An emerging paradigm for e-health: lessons learnt from e-government.
