Expert interviews were held with representatives of Dutch broadcasting organizations and a secondary analysis of Audience Research data was conducted. It was found that compared to other genres, short message service (SMS) is added most frequently to reality programmes, email and websites to the information genre, teletext to sports programmes and merchandizing to children's programmes. In addition, it was found that only SMS is added more often to programmes attracting a younger audience. The extent to which the additional communication channels represented real innovation varied from maintenance to the elaboration and modification of genres.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1461444807080333","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,8,8]],"date-time":"2007-08-08T07:34:02Z","timestamp":1186558442000},"page":"651-669","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Additional communication channels in Dutch television genres"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"Martine","family":"Van Selm","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Radboud University, the Netherlands,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Allerd","family":"Peeters","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NHTV Breda Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,8,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/S0736-5853(03)00018-2"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/14614449922225500"},{"key":"atypb3","volume-title":"The Digital Economy 2006","author":"CBS (Statistics Netherlands)","year":"2006"},{"key":"atypb4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/01972240050133652"},{"key":"atypb5","volume-title":"paper presented at the Symposium on Newspapers and the Public Debate in an Electronic Age","author":"Dennis, E.E."},{"key":"atypb6","volume-title":"Western Broadcasting at the Dawn of the 21st Century","author":"d'Haenens, L."},{"key":"atypb7","volume-title":"Achter de schermen.
