The game's two primary modes for this narrative critique involve its use of Christian symbolism and its exploration of doomsday prepper culture. What emerges from this analysis is that Far Cry 5 provides a harrowing reckoning in the rise of extremist thought in this country and its ramifications, one that is a timely reflection of current American culture. In Far Cry 5, America becomes the next great empire poised to fall throughout the game and finally, in its tense final sequences, succumbs to nuclear annihilation.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/15554120211073379","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,11]],"date-time":"2022-03-11T12:58:15Z","timestamp":1647003495000},"page":"1015-1035","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Far Cry 5, American Right-Wing Terrorism, and Doomsday Prepper Culture"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"17","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6811-7497","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Amy M.","family":"Green","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"English, Las Vegas, NV, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,11]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr1-15554120211073379","volume-title":"Imagined communities","author":"Anderson B.","year":"1983"},{"key":"bibr2-15554120211073379","volume-title":"Ubisoft on politics in games: \u201cWe know we're not taking it far enough","author":"Batchelor J.","year":"2019"},{"key":"bibr3-15554120211073379","volume-title":"(PlayStation 4)","author":"Bio Shock infinite","year":"2013"},{"key":"bibr4-15554120211073379","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.4324\/9780429507892-1"},{"key":"bibr5-15554120211073379","first-page":"159","volume-title":"Avatar, assembled: The social and technical anatomy of digital bodies","author":"Boyan A.","year":"2018"},{"key":"bibr6-15554120211073379","volume-title":"(PlayStation 4)","author":"Call of duty: Black ops Cold War","year":"2020"},{"key":"bibr8-15554120211073379","volume-title":"(PlayStation 4)","author":"Cyberpunk 2077","year":"2020"},{"key":"bibr11-15554120211073379","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/09546550312331293057"},{"key":"bibr12-15554120211073379","volume-title":"(PlayStation 4)","author":"Fallout 76","year":"2018"},{"key":"bibr13-15554120211073379","volume-title":"(PlayStation 4)","author":"Far cry 5","year":"2018"},{"key":"bibr14-15554120211073379","volume-title":"Fields of combat: Understanding PTSD among veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan","author":"Finley E.
