Ableism remains the basis for pandemic responses, leading to a range of irrationalities in collecting and using disability data during critical times. This commentary identifies situational and contextual rationalities in disability data collection and use in Global South. Through vignettes from Indonesia and Vietnam, this commentary illuminates the socio-technical and cultural infrastructure that perpetuates the obscurity of disability rights in the pandemic responses in, respectively, the largest democratic and socialist-communist countries in Southeast Asia. In addition to better listening to the voice of PwD, stronger engagement of organizations of PwD in policy making and programming is advocated for enabling more equitable pandemic preparedness, response, and recovery plans to manifest in future.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/20539517231160523","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,3,2]],"date-time":"2023-03-02T12:56:21Z","timestamp":1677761781000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["Disability data and its situational and contextual irrationalities in the Global South"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"10","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9826-903X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Abdul","family":"Rohman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Communication & Design, RMIT Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5603-1290","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Dyah","family":"Pitaloka","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication, Monash University Malaysia, Bandar Sunway, Selangor, Malaysia"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Erlina","family":"Erlina","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Faculty of Medicine, Gajah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7798-6635","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Duy","family":"Dang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Business and Management, RMIT University Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Ade","family":"Prastyani","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Independent Researcher, Bogor, Indonesia"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,3,2]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr2-20539517231160523","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/13621020500211412"},{"key":"bibr3-20539517231160523","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1093\/ct\/qtz002"},{"key":"bibr4-20539517231160523","unstructured":"Dahmm H (2020) In Low-Income Countries Fundamental Data Issues Remain for COVID-19 Response.
