Our research question was, `How do forms of power shape organizational members' ethical practices?' We look at existing theories that propose the deployment of two interrelated arguments: that ethics are embedded in organizational practices and discourse at a micro-level of everyday organizational life, which is contrasted with a focus on the macro-organizational, institutional forces that are seen to have an impact on ethics. Resisting this distinction between the `micro' and the `macro', we build on these two bodies of knowledge to explain ethical change as deeply embedded in power relations that traverse the scale of social action.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0170840608100515","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,1,22]],"date-time":"2009-01-22T09:33:04Z","timestamp":1232616784000},"page":"73-99","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":44,"title":["Embedded Ethics: Discourse and Power in the New South Wales Police Service"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"30","author":[{"given":"Ray","family":"Gordon","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Bond University, Australia,"}]},{"given":"Stewart","family":"Clegg","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Technology, Sydney, Australia,"}]},{"given":"Martin","family":"Kornberger","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Technology, Sydney, Australia,"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,1,22]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0021886300362002"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0018726700539002"},{"key":"atypb3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1287\/orsc.3.4.443"},{"key":"atypb4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/BF01686444"},{"key":"atypb5","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0018726708091016"},{"key":"atypb6","unstructured":"Battistelli, Fabrizio 2008 `Military organization' in The international encyclopaedia of organization studies.
