Evidence is presented that parallel analysis is one of the most accurate factor retention methods while also being one of the most underutilized in management and organizational research. Therefore, a step-by-step guide to performing parallel analysis is described, and an example is provided using data from the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Recommendations for making factor retention decisions are discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/1094428104263675","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2004,5,27]],"date-time":"2004-05-27T11:59:35Z","timestamp":1085659175000},"page":"191-205","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2165,"title":["Factor Retention Decisions in Exploratory Factor Analysis: a Tutorial on Parallel Analysis"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"7","author":[{"given":"James C.","family":"Hayton","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Utah State University"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"David G.","family":"Allen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Memphis"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Vida","family":"Scarpello","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Florida"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2004,4,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.2044-8317.1950.tb00285.x"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2466\/pms.1979.48.3.985"},{"key":"atypb3","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1207\/s15327906mbr2704_2"},{"key":"atypb4","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Carraher, S.
