This investigation is based on both analytical and numerical results, the latter obtained using a two-node geometrically exact beam finite element developed by one of the authors (Gon\u00e7alves, 2019), which has all the required features. Several geometrically non-linear analysis (GNA) types are used to characterize the buckling behavior, namely with geometric imperfections (GNIA), with material non-linearity (GMNA) and combining material non-linearity and imperfections (GMNIA). Different boundary conditions along the two principal planes are allowed and particular attention is paid to cases which involve the same first-order bending moment diagrams but different support schemes. As a consequence, it is shown that the buckling behavior depends not only on the slenderness and the first-order moment diagrams, but also on the supports.
