{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,8]],"date-time":"2026-01-08T22:00:45Z","timestamp":1767909645736,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":35,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2018,3,1]],"date-time":"2018-03-01T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1519862400000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"},{"start":{"date-parts":[[2018,3,1]],"date-time":"2018-03-01T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1519862400000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/page\/policies\/text-and-data-mining-license"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["journals.sagepub.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["UEG Journal"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2018,3]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title>Background<\/jats:title><jats:p>Endoscopic screening for gastric cancer is debatable in countries with an intermediate risk.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Objective<\/jats:title><jats:p>The objective of this article is to determine the cost\u2010utility of screening strategies for gastric cancer in a European country.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods<\/jats:title><jats:p>We conducted a cost\u2010utility analysis using a Markov model comparing three screening strategies versus no screening: stand\u2010alone upper endoscopy, endoscopy combined with a colorectal cancer screening colonoscopy after a positive faecal occult blood test or pepsinogens serologic screening. Clinical data were collected from systematic reviews, costs from published national data and utilities as quality\u2010adjusted life years (QALY). The primary outcome was the incremental cost\u2010effectiveness ratio (ICER). Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed. The threshold was set at \u20ac37,000 (2016 prices).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>Upper endoscopy combined with screening colonoscopy (every 10 or 5 years) had an ICER of 15,407\/QALY and \u20ac30,908\/QALY respectively, stand\u2010alone endoscopic screening (every five years) an ICER of \u20ac70,693\/QALY and pepsinogens screening an ICER of \u20ac143,344\/QALY.
