We have developed a relational database, \"DOG-SPOT,\" to provide such a tool. Implemented in MS-Access, the database is easy to extend or customize to suit a lab's particular needs. With DOG-SPOT a lab can manage data relating to dogs, breeds, samples, biomaterials, phenotypes, owners, communications, amplicons, sequences, markers, genotypes and personnel. Such an integrated data structure helps ensure high quality data entry and makes it easy to track physical stocks of biomaterials and oligonucleotides.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1186\/1751-0473-5-10","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,1,5]],"date-time":"2011-01-05T20:11:50Z","timestamp":1294258310000},"update-policy":"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["DOG-SPOT database for comprehensive management of dog genetic research data"],"prefix":"10.1186","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Julie AS","family":"Powell","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jeremy","family":"Allen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Nathan B","family":"Sutter","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,12,15]]},"reference":[{"key":"52_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"254","DOI":"10.1186\/1471-2105-10-254","volume":"10","author":"CW Maier","year":"2009","unstructured":"Maier CW, Long JG, Hemminger BM, Giddings MC: Ultra-structure database design methodology for managing systems biology data and analyses.
