In spite of the great progress, it yet remains as<jats:italic>only a map of topologies between diseases,<\/jats:italic>but not being able to be a pragmatic diagnostic\/prognostic tool in medicine. It can further evolve from a map to a<jats:italic>translational<\/jats:italic>tool if it equips with a function of scoring that measures the likelihoods of the association between diseases. Then, a physician, when practicing on a patient, can suggest several diseases that are highly likely to co-occur with a primary disease according to the scores. In this study, we propose a method of implementing \u2018<jats:italic>n-of-1 utility\u2019<\/jats:italic>(<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>potential diseases of<jats:italic>one<\/jats:italic>patient) to human disease network\u2014<jats:italic>the translational disease network<\/jats:italic>.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>We first construct a<jats:italic>disease network<\/jats:italic>by introducing the notion of<jats:italic>walk<\/jats:italic>in graph theory to<jats:italic>protein-protein interaction network<\/jats:italic>, and then provide a<jats:italic>scoring algorithm<\/jats:italic>quantifying the likelihoods of<jats:italic>disease co-occurrence<\/jats:italic>given a primary disease. Metabolic diseases, that are highly prevalent but have found only a few associations in previous studies, are chosen as entries of the network.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusions<\/jats:title><jats:p>The proposed method substantially increased<jats:italic>connectivity<\/jats:italic>between metabolic diseases and provided<jats:italic>scores<\/jats:italic>of<jats:italic>co-occurring diseases.<\/jats:italic>The increase in connectivity turned the disease network<jats:italic>info-richer<\/jats:italic>.
