Patients digitally register to the patient panels and have to confirm their registration. By being a panel member they can take part in scientific research related to their medical condition. Participation to these scientific studies is thus intrinsically motivated and always on a voluntary basis. On the websites of the Dutch Heart Council and the Lung Fund patients are informed on what it entails to participate in their patient panel and what type of research activities are performed. The patient associations decide which scientific research is eligible to request the participation of their patient panels.
