This work addresses these two issues in an integrated and interdisciplinary manner: it utilizes discrete signaling to approach the capacity of the interference channel by developing lower bounds on the mutual information under discrete modulation and treating interference as noise, subject to an outage set, and addresses the issue of sensitivity to link gains with a liquid metal reconfigurable antenna to avoid the aforementioned outage sets. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of our approach.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1186\/s13638-021-02019-w","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,15]],"date-time":"2021-07-15T09:03:48Z","timestamp":1626339828000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Leveraging discrete modulation and liquid metal antennas for interference reduction"],"prefix":"10.1186","volume":"2021","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0000-504X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mirza Uzair","family":"Baig","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7368-6267","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Kareem S.","family":"Elassy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1472-4953","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Anders","family":"H\u00f8st-Madsen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3789-897X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Aaron T.","family":"Ohta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1294-2703","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Wayne A.","family":"Shiroma","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3751-0165","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Aria","family":"Nosratinia","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,15]]},"reference":[{"key":"2019_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1017\/CBO9781139030687","volume-title":"Network Information Theory","author":"AE Gamal","year":"2011","unstructured":"A.E.
