By transforming the seismic data into the frequency domain via the DFT, the amplitude spectra delineate temporal bed thickness variability while the phase spectra indicate lateral geologic discontinuities. This technology has delineated stratigraphic settings (such as channel sands and structural settings involving complex fault systems) in 3-D surveys.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1190\/1.1438295","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2002,10,11]],"date-time":"2002-10-11T15:28:10Z","timestamp":1034350090000},"page":"353-360","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":758,"title":["Interpretational applications of spectral decomposition in reservoir characterization"],"prefix":"10.1190","volume":"18","author":[{"given":"Greg","family":"Partyka","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"1 Amoco E&P Technology Group, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States"}]},{"given":"James","family":"Gridley","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"1 Amoco E&P Technology Group, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States"}]},{"given":"John","family":"Lopez","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"1 Amoco E&P Technology Group, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States"}]}],"member":"186","container-title":["The Leading Edge"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/pubs.geoscienceworld.org\/seg\/tle\/article-pdf\/18\/3\/353\/7382063\/1.1438295.pdf","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"syndication"},{"URL":"https:\/\/pubs.geoscienceworld.org\/seg\/tle\/article-pdf\/18\/3\/353\/7382063\/1.1438295.pdf","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,12,8]],"date-time":"2025-12-08T17:37:46Z","timestamp":1765215466000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/pubs.geoscienceworld.org\/tle\/article\/18\/3\/353\/58894\/Interpretational-applications-of-spectral"},"secondary":[{"URL":"https:\/\/pubs.geoscienceworld.org\/tle\/article\/18\/3\/353\/58894\/interpretational-applications-of-spectral","label":"geoscienceworld"},{"URL":"http:\/\/tle.geoscienceworld.org\/cgi\/doi\/10.1190\/1.1438295","label":"geoscienceworld"}]},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1999,3,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1999,3,1]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1190\/1.1438295","relation":{},"ISSN":["1070-485X"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1070-485X","type":"print"}],"subject":[],"published-other":{"date-parts":[[1999,3]]},"published":{"date-parts":[[1999,3,1]]}}}
