This process employs a packed column containing an admixture of a catalyst and an adsorbent or acceptor capable of selectively removing carbon dioxide as a reaction by-product from the reaction zone. The present status of research regarding various factors influencing the adsorbent and acceptor, respectively, are discussed in detail.
