Organizations then struggle to improve a business process which has no longer a single process model to redesign, implement and adjust. In this paper, we propose an approach to tackle these two challenges: decrease the proliferation of process variants in these organizations, and foresee, at the same time, the need of having flexible business processes that allow for a certain degree of adjustment. To validate our approach, we first conducted case studies where we collected six real-world business process variants from two organizational units of the same healthcare organization. We then proposed an algorithm to derive a template process model from all the variants, which includes common and flexible process elements. We implemented our approach in a software tool called BPFlexTemplate, and tested it with the elicited variants. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.12821\/ijispm050304","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,31]],"date-time":"2022-03-31T10:41:40Z","timestamp":1648723300000},"page":"67-89","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["BPFlexTemplate: A Business Process template generation tool based on similarity and flexibility"],"prefix":"10.12821","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Latifa","family":"Ilahi","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Sonia Ayachi","family":"Ghannouchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Ricardo","family":"Martinho","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"9283","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,1,31]]},"container-title":["International Journal of Information Systems and Project Management"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/revistas.uminho.pt\/index.php\/ijispm\/article\/download\/3844\/3898","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/revistas.uminho.pt\/index.php\/ijispm\/article\/download\/3844\/3898","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,31]],"date-time":"2022-03-31T10:41:40Z","timestamp":1648723300000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/revistas.uminho.pt\/index.php\/ijispm\/article\/view\/3844"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2022,1,31]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,3]]}},"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.12821\/ijispm050304","relation":{},"ISSN":["2182-7788"],"issn-type":[{"type":"electronic","value":"2182-7788"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2022,1,31]]}}}
