In the present study, we investigated the internal branches \nof E-M81 (E1b1b1b1a) in 29 unrelated men from mainland Portugal. All individuals sampled carried the \nderived allele for the marker M183 (hg E1b1b1b1a1), and all but two had the derived allele for the marker \nSM001. Eleven individuals carried the derived allele for the marker Z5009 (hg E1b1b1b1a1c), and 16 \nwere assigned to the paragroup E-SM001*(xZ5009, PF6794, CTS12227, M165, M5043). Median-joining \nnetworks based on seven Y-chromosome short tandem repeats (DYS19, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, \nDYS391, DYS392, and DYS393) showed 14 different haplotypes, revealing a clear star-like structure, with \nthe common central haplotype distributed by the three different subclades identified (M183*, SM001*, \nand Z5009) encompassing the typical Maghrebin core haplotype in northern African populations. \nThe relatively high frequency of the E-M81 lineage in mainland Portugal supports a North African Y-chromosomal contribution that may have occurred during the Islamic period in the country<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1353\/hub.2017.a931433","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,21]],"date-time":"2024-06-21T09:51:06Z","timestamp":1718963466000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Analysis of Human Y Chromosome Haplogroup E-M81 Sublineages in Portuguese Samples"],"prefix":"10.1353","author":[{"given":"Selsabil","family":"Bouabdallah","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Diana","family":"Alves","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Lic\u00ednio","family":"Manco","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"147","container-title":["Human Biology"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,21]],"date-time":"2024-06-21T09:51:11Z","timestamp":1718963471000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/article\/931433"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,6]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1353\/hub.2017.a931433","relation":{},"ISSN":["1534-6617"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1534-6617","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,6]]}}}
