In addition, exoskeletons are increasingly used in daily mobility as well as in rehabilitation therapy. We present a motorized rollator to combine the advantages of both support devices. Based on the developed hardware, we design two model-based control concepts. The first relies on distance measurement with ultrasonic sensors, which enables contactless navigation of the rollator, to allow balance training with the exoskeleton. The second control concept enables the balancing of the rollator on its rear wheels as a first step to overcome stairs. Through experiments on the real system, we demonstrate and discuss the functionality and reliability of both control concepts.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1515\/auto-2022-0045","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,11,15]],"date-time":"2022-11-15T12:37:37Z","timestamp":1668515857000},"page":"1017-1027","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Hardware development and control of a motorized rollator as an extension for exoskeletons"],"prefix":"10.1515","volume":"70","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3665-0289","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lukas","family":"Bergmann","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Chair for Medical Information Technology , RWTH Aachen University , Pauwelsstr. 20, 52074 Aachen , Germany"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Lea","family":"Hansmann","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Chair for Medical Information Technology , RWTH Aachen University , Pauwelsstr. 20, 52074 Aachen , Germany"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Steffen","family":"Leonhardt","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Chair for Medical Information Technology , RWTH Aachen University , Pauwelsstr. 20, 52074 Aachen , Germany"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Chuong","family":"Ngo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Chair for Medical Information Technology , RWTH Aachen University , Pauwelsstr. 20, 52074 Aachen , Germany"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"374","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,11,16]]},"reference":[{"key":"2023033111302683575_j_auto-2022-0045_ref_001","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"N.
