Such RNA aptamers are highly structured nucleotide sequences capable of specifically binding a target molecule. De novo<\/jats:italic> selection of aptamers against a wide variety of potential targets is possible. By integrating RNA aptamers as binding domains into natural or synthetically designed regulatory circuits in the form of so-called riboswitches, new regulatory mechanisms can be generated that do not require additional regulatory elements. In addition, these binding domains can be used in cell-free systems to perform highly specific and affine molecular detection assays. By presenting two well-established aptamer designs, we aim to demonstrate the potential of RNA aptamer-based riboswitches and biosensors in various applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1515\/auto-2024-0002","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,28]],"date-time":"2024-06-28T04:54:02Z","timestamp":1719550442000},"page":"666-671","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["RNA aptamers: promising tools in synthetic biology"],"prefix":"10.1515","volume":"72","author":[{"given":"Daniel","family":"Kelvin","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Fachbereich Biologie, TU Darmstadt , Schnittspahnstrasse 10, 64287 Darmstadt , Germany"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8666-6716","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Beatrix","family":"Suess","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Fachbereich Biologie, TU Darmstadt , Schnittspahnstrasse 10, 64287 Darmstadt , Germany"},{"name":"Centre for Synthetic Biology, TU Darmstadt , 64287 Darmstadt , Germany"}]}],"member":"374","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,28]]},"reference":[{"key":"2025030308164096935_j_auto-2024-0002_ref_001","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"A.
