More precisely, we are interested in\neigenproblems which are defined over curved domains or have internal curved boundaries\nand which may be associated with non-compact inverse operators.\nTo do this, we consider external domain approximations <jats:inline-formula id=\"eq1_w2aab2b8b1b1b7b1aab1c12b1b1Aa\"><jats:alternatives><jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" xlink:href=\"graphic\/cmam-2013-0014_5ccbf6097cac258900c3051058272cfc.png\" \/><jats:tex-math>$\\Omega _{h}$<\/jats:tex-math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula> of the original\ndomain <jats:inline-formula id=\"eq2_w2aab2b8b1b1b7b1aab1c12b1b3Aa\"><jats:alternatives><jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" xlink:href=\"graphic\/cmam-2013-0014_c3886d94b10f48390c029c56c8144ff9.png\" \/><jats:tex-math>$\\Omega $<\/jats:tex-math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula>, i.e., <jats:inline-formula id=\"eq3_w2aab2b8b1b1b7b1aab1c12b1b5Aa\"><jats:alternatives><jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" xlink:href=\"graphic\/cmam-2013-0014_55fd9532242c578a5bfabfc9f2871116.png\" \/><jats:tex-math>$\\Omega _{h} \\lnot \\subset \\Omega $<\/jats:tex-math><\/jats:alternatives><\/jats:inline-formula>. Sufficient conditions to ensure good convergence properties and optimal error\nbounds for the external approximations of the eigenfunction\/eigenvalue pairs are established.
