Applications can be composed ofWeb Services\nand resources associated with mobile devices, displays\nand various augmented everyday objects. In this article,\nwe focus on ubiquitous applicationswhich aim at supporting\nusers\u2019 needs and everyday activities. Application composition\nis particularly suitable for these applications as\nit proposes to compose ubiquitous applications by choosing\nthe appropriate set of services and resources and their\nconfiguration as required by users, their needs and other\ncontexts. This article gives an overview and classifies interactive\napplication composition approaches. These approaches\nprovide the necessary user tools and various user\ninterfaces to enable users themselves to specify their needs\nand achieve their goals with composed applications. The\napproaches in this article are analyzed according to the\nuser support provided during the application life-cycle\nand user involvement during the application composition\nand execution phases. Furthermore,we look inside the design\nof user interfaces for visual and non-visual user tools\nand discuss their advantages and disadvantages.
