Applications reason about\nthe user situation and adapt dynamically, often without explicit user\ninteraction. Such applications exploit technical features such as context\nawareness, context reasoning, adaptation models, dynamic resource\ndiscovery\/binding, and self-configuration. The engineering of ubiquitous\ncomputing applications is a\u00a0challenge because the user acceptance depends\nnot only on functional features but at least as much on non-functional and\nuser-related features that we address under the term \u201csocial awareness\u201d.\nIn this paper we present an interdisciplinary development approach for\nself-adaptive applications that takes into account social awareness\nrequirements in a\u00a0systematic and integrated manner. Our focus is on\nusability, trust, and legality. We present the ingredients of our new\nmethodology and its evaluation based on application prototypes.
