We present a novel method and tool that allows interactive visual analytics of character occurrences in Victorian novels, and has been handed to humanities scholars and students for work with a number of novels from different authors. Our user study reveals insights about Victorian novels that are valuable for scholars in the digital humanities field, and informs UI as well as UX designers about how these domain experts interact with tools that leverage network science.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1515\/itit-2017-0023","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,2,28]],"date-time":"2018-02-28T22:25:59Z","timestamp":1519856759000},"page":"29-40","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Not-so-distant reading: A dynamic network approach to literature"],"prefix":"10.1515","volume":"60","author":[{"given":"Markus","family":"Luczak-Roesch","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Victoria University of Wellington , School of Information Management , Wellington , New Zealand"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Adam","family":"Grener","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Victoria University of Wellington , School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies , Wellington , New Zealand"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Emma","family":"Fenton","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Victoria University of Wellington , School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies , Wellington , New Zealand"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"374","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2018,2,28]]},"reference":[{"key":"2023033119475993723_j_itit-2017-0023_ref_001_w2aab3b7b5b1b6b1ab1b7b1Aa","unstructured":"A.
