The\naims of this work are: to present soil temperature measurements\nand to compare geothermal heat pump system\nperformances with conventional air conditioning systems.\nGeothermal temperature measurement results are shown\nfor ten Paran\u00e1 State cities, representing different soil and\nclimate conditions. The measurements were made yearlong\nwith calibrated equipment and digital data acquisition\nsystem in different measuring stations. Geothermal\nand ambient temperature data were used for simulations\nof the coeficient of performance (COP), by means of a\nworking fluid pressure-enthalpy diagram based software\nfor vapor-compression cycle. It was verified that geothermal\ntemperature measured between January 13 to October\n13, 2013, varied from 16 to 24 \u00b0C, while room temperature\nhas varied between 2 and 35 \u00b0C. Average COP\nvalues for conventional system were 3.7 (cooling mode)\nand 5.0 kW\/kW (heating mode), corresponding to 5.9 and\n7.9 kW\/kW for geothermal system.
