Their direct\ntoxicity or capability of generating toxic compounds\nhas been associated with a large number of adverse health\neffects, such as infectious diseases and allergies. Given\nthat in modern society people spend a large part of their\ntime indoors; fungal communities\u2019 characterization of this\nenvironmental compartment assumes paramount importance\nin the comprehension of health effects. House dust is an easy to obtain, time-integrative matrix, being its use\nin epidemiological studies on human exposure to environmental\ncontaminants highly recommended. Furthermore,\ndust can carry a great variety of fungal content that undergoes\na large number of processes that modulate and\nfurther complexify human exposure. Our study aims to\nidentify and quantify the fungal community on house dust\nsamples collected using two different methodologies (an\napproach not often seen in the literature): active (vacuum\ncleaner bags) and passive sampling (dust settled in petri\ndishes).
