Interest focuses on full-color systems, but a limited color repertoire is sufficient for some applications and can reduce cost and complexity significantly, especially when subtractive-color active-matrix liquid-crystal display (AMLCD) technology is used. We report a series of experiments that investigated important questions about the design and merits of two-primary color AMLCDs for HMD applications. Our main conclusion is that the image quality of a subtractive-color AMLCD with high (\u226570%) aperture ratio is superior to a comparable, conventional color AMLCD. Evidence regarding requirements for resolution, aperture ratio, and gray scale is also provided. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1518\/001872097778667951","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2006,10,16]],"date-time":"2006-10-16T21:26:16Z","timestamp":1161033976000},"page":"618-641","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":11,"title":["Image Quality of Two-Primary Color Active-Matrix Liquid-Crystal Displays"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"39","author":[{"given":"David L.","family":"Post","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio"}]},{"given":"William F.","family":"Reinhart","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Honeywell Technology Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1997,12,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","unstructured":"Barten, P.
