The aimed to analyze whether the interaction with digital technologies and games during childhood interferes with the performance of different types of attention. An ex post facto study was conducted with 169 children from one Brazilian and two Portuguese schools, collecting data through the application of a questionnaire with parents or guardians and a battery of psychological tests that measured attention performance. The results indicated that smartphones were the most used devices and that the interaction with digital games and access to videos were the most frequent activities. No association was observed between access time to digital technologies and attention performance. However, Portuguese children had significantly higher attention performance than Brazilian children. It was concluded that various factors and conditions may affect attention performance<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1590\/0102-4698-42147t","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,28]],"date-time":"2025-11-28T15:08:53Z","timestamp":1764342533000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND ATTENTION PERFORMANCE: A STUDY WITH BRAZILIAN AND PORTUGUESE CHILDREN"],"prefix":"10.1590","volume":"41","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9833-310X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"DANIELA KARINE","family":"RAMOS","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brasil"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0610-6896","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"RUI MARQUES","family":"VIEIRA","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal"}]}],"member":"530","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025]]},"reference":[{"issue":"12","key":"ref1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"763","DOI":"10.1038\/nrn3135","article-title":"Brains on video games","volume":"12","author":"BAVELIER D.","year":"2011","journal-title":"Nature reviews neuroscience"},{"issue":"5","key":"ref2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"692","DOI":"10.1016\/j.neuron.2010.08.035","article-title":"Children, wired: For better and for worse","volume":"67","author":"BAVELIER D.","year":"2010","journal-title":"Neuron"},{"key":"ref3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"1335864","DOI":"10.3389\/fpsyg.2024.1335864","article-title":"Systematic research is needed on the potential effects of lifelong technology experience on cognition: a mini-review and recommendations","volume":"15","author":"BEAUDOIN M.
