O escrut\u00ednio cr\u00edtico dos seus modi operandi intensificou-se, envolvendo um n\u00famero crescente de indiv\u00edduos, grupos e redes operando em contextos diversos, com motiva\u00e7\u00f5es e objectivos distintos. As press\u00f5es para a renova\u00e7\u00e3o ou para o desmantelamento das solu\u00e7\u00f5es imperiais e coloniais multiplicaram-se. Acompanhando essas transforma\u00e7\u00f5es, por vezes antecipando-as, em outras agindo de um modo essencialmente reactivo, as autoridades imperiais e coloniais imaginaram e desenvolveram novos idiomas e repert\u00f3rios de administra\u00e7\u00e3o. Estes foram marcados por argument\u00e1rios e planos de desenvolvimento e moderniza\u00e7\u00e3o societal e, ainda, por novas pol\u00edticas da diferen\u00e7a, produzindo renovados mecanismos de regula\u00e7\u00e3o, inclus\u00e3o e exclus\u00e3o social, pol\u00edtica e econ\u00f3mica. Este texto analisa uma dessas manifesta\u00e7\u00f5es, a emerg\u00eancia do \u201ccolonialismo de bem-estar\u201d no imp\u00e9rio colonial portugu\u00eas, colocando-o num contexto internacional relevante, incluindo de cariz interimperial. O texto aborda sobretudo a \u201cprov\u00edncia ultramarina\u201d de Angola e foca-se, no essencial, no dom\u00ednio do trabalho, mostrando como as orienta\u00e7\u00f5es desenvolvimentistas e de \u201cbem-estar\u201d foram profundamente condicionadas por (e assim se tornaram \u00fateis para) preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es
