Para tal foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, de tipo descritivo, em que participaram 34 estudantes do 2.\u00b0 ano do curso de Licenciatura em Educa\u00e7\u00e3o B\u00e1sica de uma universidade do Norte de Portugal, tendo os dados sido obtidos num contexto de avalia\u00e7\u00e3o formal realizada no \u00e2mbito da unidade curricular de Probabilidades e Estat\u00edstica. Aqui, neste trabalho, iremos explorar apenas uma tarefa, exatamente aquela em que se questionavam os estudantes acerca dos dados a acrescentar a uma s\u00e9rie dada de modo a se obterem valores especificados para as medidas de tend\u00eancia central. Em termos dos principais resultados obtidos, salienta-se um desempenho bastante satisfat\u00f3rio dos estudantes em termos de respostas corretas. Contudo, essas respostas corretas, relativas aos valores a acrescentar, muitas vezes, n\u00e3o resultaram de uma explica\u00e7\u00e3o racional e compreensiva sobre a sua origem. Assim, a partir do presente estudo, destaca-se a necessidade destes estudantes, futuros professores dos primeiros anos escolares, verbalizarem e explicarem as suas ideias, aspectos que ser\u00e3o da maior relev\u00e2ncia no seu futuro of\u00edcio docente.
