O circuito do reator se fundamenta na integra\u00e7\u00e3o de um conversor buck com um conversor flyback. A tarefa de corre\u00e7\u00e3o do fator de pot\u00eancia \u00e9 realizada pela etapa buck, enquanto a etapa flyback controla a pot\u00eancia na l\u00e2mpada fornecendo uma corrente em onda quadrada de baixa freq\u00fc\u00eancia. Este \u00e9 um m\u00e9todo adequado para se evitar o fen\u00f4meno da resson\u00e2ncia ac\u00fastica, comum em l\u00e2mpadas de descarga de alta press\u00e3o (HID). Os dois est\u00e1gios conversores operam no modo de condu\u00e7\u00e3o descont\u00ednua (DCM), o que permite o uso de apenas um interruptor de alta freq\u00fc\u00eancia simplificando o controle. O reator eletr\u00f4nico \u00e9 controlado digitalmente e emprega um microcontrolador de baixo custo PIC16F684. Este componente \u00e9 programado para desempenhar todas as tarefas necess\u00e1rias aos processos de igni\u00e7\u00e3o, aquecimento e regime permanente da l\u00e2mpada, respondendo tamb\u00e9m pelo controle em malha fechada da corrente na l\u00e2mpada e prote\u00e7\u00f5es convencionais.
