Debatidos aspetos relevantes do estado-da-arte sobre o uso do indicador de valor acrescentado, o enfoque recai sobre os problemas de escolha do modelo estat\u00edstico e o das propriedades de consist\u00eancia e estabilidade do indicador, considerando o contexto educacional brasileiro. S\u00e3o apresentadas as vantagens e limita\u00e7\u00f5es que, por sua vez, elucidam quanto ao uso que lhe possa ser dado. A componente emp\u00edrica \u00e9 desenvolvida atrav\u00e9s da aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de modelo multin\u00edvel de componentes de vari\u00e2ncia aos dados do GERES 2005 referentes ao munic\u00edpio de Campinas, dado este apresentar, simultaneamente, maior percentagem de escolas por estrato e menor taxa de atrito. A evid\u00eancia emp\u00edrica revela que o indicador produzido pelo modelo de resultados contextualizados \u00e9 muito diferente do de valor acrescentado, sustentando a necessidade de ado\u00e7\u00e3o de estudos longitudinais.
