Bras. Educ."],"abstract":"<jats:p>RESUMO Este artigo encontra-se dividido em tr\u00eas partes. Na primeira parte, argumenta-se que a quest\u00e3o central da forma\u00e7\u00e3o de professores reside num \u201cterceiro g\u00e9nero de conhecimento\u201d, designado por conhecimento profissional docente. Na segunda parte, ensaia-se a defini\u00e7\u00e3o desse conhecimento, com base nos conceitos de contingente, coletivo e p\u00fablico, e retiram-se consequ\u00eancias para a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de professores nos planos institucional, profissional e p\u00fablico. A terceira parte \u00e9 dedicada \u00e0 an\u00e1lise dessas consequ\u00eancias, referindo-se \u00e0 necessidade de um \u201cterceiro lugar\u201d institucional, de um refor\u00e7o do coletivo docente e de uma proje\u00e7\u00e3o p\u00fablica dos professores.
