A pesquisa seguiu uma metodologia de orienta\u00e7\u00e3o qualitativa, de car\u00e1ter descritivo e de an\u00e1lise documental, focada nos crit\u00e9rios e procedimentos seguidos pela Ag\u00eancia de Avalia\u00e7\u00e3o e Acredita\u00e7\u00e3o do Ensino Superior, respons\u00e1vel por este processo em Portugal. Os resultados obtidos apontam que a avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de cursos, \u00e0 semelhan\u00e7a do que \u00e9 desejado no Espa\u00e7o Europeu de Ensino Superior, tem como inten\u00e7\u00e3o garantir a qualidade da educa\u00e7\u00e3o e apoiar os planos de melhoria da educa\u00e7\u00e3o superior em Portugal.
