Pesqui."],"abstract":"<jats:p>A educa\u00e7\u00e3o progressiva \u00e9 uma das tradi\u00e7\u00f5es educativas mais fascinantes dos Estados Unidos da Am\u00e9rica, destacando-se pela sua vis\u00e3o humanista da educa\u00e7\u00e3o e pelo compromisso com o aprofundamento da democracia atrav\u00e9s da escolariza\u00e7\u00e3o. Neste artigo, analisamos os principais desenvolvimentos da educa\u00e7\u00e3o progressiva por meio da revis\u00e3o de literatura recente a respeito do assunto e de escritos de seguidores mais proeminentes, estabelecendo a rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre as propostas atuais e o pensamento fundador de John Dewey. O nosso objetivo consiste em elucidar qual o n\u00facleo fundamental das ideias defendidas por esse movimento educativo, baseando-nos numa discuss\u00e3o dos conceitos centrais do pensamento pedag\u00f3gico de John Dewey e na forma como esses foram apropriados e alargados pelos seus sucessores e atuais defensores. A partir da an\u00e1lise, conclu\u00edmos que, apesar da influ\u00eancia dessa tradi\u00e7\u00e3o educativa ter diminu\u00eddo, fruto da generaliza\u00e7\u00e3o de uma perspectiva neoliberal na educa\u00e7\u00e3o norte-americana, as suas propostas s\u00e3o fundamentais para a promo\u00e7\u00e3o de uma sociedade mais democr\u00e1tica e justa. Entre essas propostas, que permanecem fi\u00e9is aos aspectos fulcrais do pensamento de John Dewey, adaptando-o aos novos tempos, destacam-se o compromisso com a integra\u00e7\u00e3o social e o pluralismo, al\u00e9m da concep\u00e7\u00e3o da aprendizagem como amplia\u00e7\u00e3o de uma experi\u00eancia partilhada, favorecedora da promo\u00e7\u00e3o do capital social e do estabelecimento das bases de uma aprendizagem
