Pesqui."],"abstract":"<jats:p>Resumo Neste artigo, que aproveita a oportunidade de se incluir numa celebra\u00e7\u00e3o dos cem anos da publica\u00e7\u00e3o de Democracy and Education, pretendemos fazer uma reflex\u00e3o sobre os fundamentos de tr\u00eas no\u00e7\u00f5es nucleares e transversais a toda a obra de John Dewey, em especial a referida acima. Reportamo-nos \u00e0s no\u00e7\u00f5es de d emocracia, intelig\u00eancia e educa\u00e7\u00e3o, numa rela\u00e7\u00e3o que nos parece estrutural. O t\u00edtulo da obra original de John Dewey n\u00e3o inclui o termo intelig\u00eancia. No entanto, parece-nos decisivo fazer ancorar a teoria da educa\u00e7\u00e3o, que se explana no \u00e2mbito de uma concep\u00e7\u00e3o democr\u00e1tica, nessa ideia estrutural na teoria do autor. Com efeito, na filosofia de Dewey, a educa\u00e7\u00e3o assume o papel de teste da validade do ideal de uma sociedade democr\u00e1tica e \u00e9 sobre ela que recai a responsabilidade de criar as condi\u00e7\u00f5es para a implementa\u00e7\u00e3o desta sociedade. Na concep\u00e7\u00e3o de Dewey a democracia \u00e9 bem mais do que uma forma de governo. \u00c9 a oportunidade de realiza\u00e7\u00e3o plena das potencialidades maiores da natureza humana. Nesse contexto, s\u00f3 uma capacidade como a intelig\u00eancia pode servir para agir num mundo contingente, em evolu\u00e7\u00e3o permanente e com a voca\u00e7\u00e3o de uma melhoria constante.
