Este problema se origina do aumento da concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de gases de efeito estufa (CO2) na atmosfera. Esses gases prov\u00eam, na sua maioria, da queima de combust\u00edveis f\u00f3sseis para produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia. Na Europa as emiss\u00f5es relacionadas com a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia representam a maior parte das emiss\u00f5es totais. Portanto, a fim de lidar com o problema do aquecimento global, os pa\u00edses da Uni\u00e3o Europ\u00e9ia (UE) decidiram que em 2020 seu n\u00edvel de emiss\u00f5es conjunto ser\u00e1 20% inferior ao de 1990 e ainda que em 2050 essa redu\u00e7\u00e3o dever\u00e1 situar-se entre 80% e 95% abaixo do n\u00edvel de emiss\u00f5es de 1990. Al\u00e9m disso, a UE se comprometeu a aumentar em 20% o consumo de energia oriunda de fontes renov\u00e1veis. O aumento da efici\u00eancia energ\u00e9tica em edif\u00edcios novos e existentes \u00e9 fundamental para a transforma\u00e7\u00e3o do sistema energ\u00e9tico da UE. O presente artigo analisa sucintamente a estrat\u00e9gia da UE para a efici\u00eancia energ\u00e9tica no ambiente
