While these biases can\nimpact anyone, there is a heightened risk for\ndisproportionate harm to Black and Brown communities.\nDespite efforts to address these inequities, a critical gap\nremains in understanding how Black and Brown communities\nperceive and interact with data-centric innovations. In\nthis paper, we present findings from a survey of 60\ntechnology users with diverse racial, ethnic, and gender\nidentities. Our findings reveal that while Black and Brown\nusers may frequently contribute data through social media\nand research participation, discomfort arises when data is\nused without explicit consent, particularly by for-profit\norganizations. Transparency, trust, and familiarity with\ndata collection entities and outcomes emerged as key\nfactors influencing engagement.
