The evidence suggests that more oestradiol-17\u03b2 is associated with the 'light' chromatin sedimenting at a higher centrifugal force than with the 'heavy' chromatin. Electron microscopy showed that heterochromatin was present in intact tumour nuclei, but it dispersed during isolation of the nuclei, and probably did not account for the fractionation of chromatin that occurred. No heterochromatin was observed in the centrifuged fractions. The template activity appeared to be higher in the fractions that had bound oestradiol. These results are compatible with the view that oestradiol binds to restricted regions of the chromatin and stimulates local increases in transcription.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1677\/joe.0.0510231","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,12,11]],"date-time":"2008-12-11T22:08:26Z","timestamp":1229033306000},"page":"231-NP","update-policy":"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1530\/crossmarkpolicy-5","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":5,"title":["PARTIAL FRACTIONATION OF OESTRADIOL-BINDING CHROMATIN FROM DIMETHYLBENZANTHRACENE-INDUCED RAT MAMMARY TUMOUR"],"prefix":"10.1530","volume":"51","author":[{"given":"A.
