The in situ deep mixing technique to form composite soft ground has been an effective means of ground improvement, adopted extensively in Japan. This paper deals with a field investigation of the effect of various parameters in in situ mixing: installation rate, which considers penetration and withdrawal during mixing; speed of rotation of mixing wing; and cement content and water\/cement ratio in the slurry used. In order to have close control over these installation parameters a laboratory model column study has also been undertaken. The findings from both investigations have been integrated with earlier basic laboratory studies on induced cementation of cement-admixed clays. A practical method is suggested for arriving at different parameters in the installation of columnar inclusion to produce composite ground of the required average strength. <\/jats:p><jats:p> Les d\u00e9p\u00f4 ts de sols tendres (naturels ou r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s sur la mer dans les r\u00e9gions c\u00f4ti\u00e8res) montrent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement une faible r\u00e9sistance au cisaillement et une forte compressibilit\u00e9. La technique de mixage profond in-situ pour former un sol tendre composite, a \u00e9t\u00e9 un moyen efficace pour am\u00e9liorer les sols et a \u00e9 t\u00e9 adopt\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re extensive au Japon. Cet expos\u00e9 \u00e9tudie, au moyen d'une investigation sur le terrain, les effets de divers param\u00e8tres du mixage insitu: vitesse d'installation qui tient compte de la p\u00e9n\u00e9tration et du retrait pendant le mixage; vitesse de rotation de l'aile de mixage; et contenu en ciment et rapport eau\/ ciment dans la boue utilis\u00e9e. Afin d'exercer un contr\u00f4le e troit sur ces param\u00e8tres d'installation, une \u00e9tude mod\u00e8le en laboratoire sur colonne a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9e. Les r\u00e9sultats de ces deux enqu\u00eates ont \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9s avec des \u00e9tudes de laboratoire basiques r\u00e9alis\u00e9es ant\u00e9rieurement sur la cimentation induite des argiles m\u00e9lang\u00e9es au ciment.
