Due to its crucial strategic position for the maritime network system along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast as well as its industrial resources, settlement activities go back to the Neolithic era. Functioning as a major port site, known as Karon limen or Portus Caria , the area has been subject of extensive archaeological studies since the 1960ies. Unfortunately, however, Cape Shabla is determined as highly hazardous to coastal erosion . Due to the change of coastline since Classical Antiquity, a significant part of the port city has already been destroyed irrevocably with the eastern part of the settlement being completely lost. The current investigation therefore focuses on the geoarchaeological investigation of the wider area in question by using unmanned aerial vehicle (drone imagery). The aim of this study is to summarize the historical sequences of Cape Shabla, despite its issues associated with natural hazards (sea-level rising in the Black Sea, coastal erosion, storms , etc.) and human activities like construction works or the impact of tourism and their effects on the pal eogeography of the Bulgarian coast. This will allow to capture the potential and needs of archaeological preservation beyond the visible traces .
[[2022,9,28
["An Interdisciplinary Approach in the Study of the Ancient Harbour Site “Karon Limen” or “Portus Caria/Carea”, Bulgaria
[[2026,8,14
[[2022
[[2022
preprint"}}
