The  studies  carried  out  in  Portugal  have  revealed  some  of  the  methods  of  organisation  used  in  these  libraries,  as  there  are  few  elements  of  thematic  organisation  that  have  survived  to  the  present  day.  It  is  therefore  important to understand the tools of thematic organisation that make it possible to  create  a  catalogue  organised  according  to  the  national  and  international normative principles of subject indexing currently in force, and to apply them to the reconstruction of the collections.
