Therefore,  new  approaches  to  train  these  professionals  are required,  particularly  in  higher  education.  This  paper  presents  project-based  learning  as  a  way  to introduce innovative teaching methodologiesin Information Science education. Based on a literature review  on  project-based  learning  and  Information  Science  education,  a  pedagogical  experience carried  out  in  an  Information  Science  undergraduate  programis  presented.  The  planning  and implementation strategies, using digital tools, of a project-based learning experience in a curricular unit are described, with a critical analysis of the process and the results obtained. Results show that this teaching-learning approach promotes a harmonious integration of theory and practice, favouring student  motivation  and  the  development  of  technical  and  transversal  competencies.
