These events highlighted the effects that weak corporate governance may have in corporations, resulting in poor management decisions and financial performance, and even ending in the collapse of some corporations. This new issue (volume 18, issue 1) of the journal Corporate Ownership and Control contains an interesting selection of articles, with contributions on the role of different types of ownership (e.g., family and state-owned enterprises) and corporate governance mechanism, from internal control to new forms of socially responsible accountability in order to enable the corporations to ensure a commitment to all stakeholders and a safe global environment for the future.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.22495\/cocv18i1editorial","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,10,30]],"date-time":"2020-10-30T11:14:01Z","timestamp":1604056441000},"page":"4-6","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Editorial: Corporate governance and ownership: Changing towards an accountable, sustainable, responsible but profitable corporation"],"prefix":"10.22495","volume":"18","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4342-2620","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Maria Jo\u00e3o","family":"Guedes","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Lisbon School of Economics and Management"}]}],"member":"9787","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,10,30]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref0","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","unstructured":"Aguilera, R.
